-worst battery life of any cell phone Ive ever owned- and that goes back to 1997.
-annoying beep with every unanswered call that doesn't go away without intervention.
-small keypad very easy to misdial with.
-Decent sound quality and does not often drop calls.
-freezes up from time to time and battery needs to be removed to get it to work again.
-will be getting something else very soon-very disappointed in this one. All my other Samsung phones have been much better.
Cons: poor battery life
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The Samsung Montage phone is inexpensive and worth it - that is, you get what you pay for. It's relatively easy to use, but that's really it's only positive quality. The battery life is pathetic. It has a very limited text length capability - sending or receiving. The call volume control is very limited - the loudest setting is still rather quiet.
I've had this phone for a couple of years now, and it's started doing strange things, like: randomly turning off for no apparent reason (with a full battery); it's stuck on receiving or sending a blank text and not letting me delete it; it mysteriously "locked" itself (so that nothing can be reset) without ever being programmed with a lock code; etc.
It's a decent phone for very basic use, but leave it alone if you need more dependability.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE! IT DOES NOT STOP BEEPING EVEN WHEN ON SILENT!
I knew this phone was basic when I bought it, but there's basic and then there's AWFUL. I'm a PC and Mac user and a tech geek. I've used a variety of cell phones in the last 12 years from flip phones, to keyboard sliders, to touch screens. This is the WORST PHONE I've owned in 12 years regardless of modern features. I've never seen such a design flaw in my life:
Whenever you receive a text message after the ring tone goes off, Regardless of weather the phone is set to silent, THE PHONE BEEPS EVERY 10 SECONDS UNTIL YOU CHECK YOUR MESSAGES.
THIS CANNOT BE TURNED, SILENCED, OFF OR DEACTIVATED.
This means if you use your phone as an alarm clock like me, you're out of luck if you get a text while you are asleep as the beeping will wake you up and even if you stop it, the next text will set off the endless beeps again.
Good luck taking it into a movie theater... Turn off your phones for the movie? Nope. BEEP BEEP BEEP, then take it out to stop the beeps and risk getting kicked out for using your phone.
I can't really make fun of the cheap camera, poor user interface, or lack of features because it's a basic phone. But this is 2014, and I have NEVER seen such a HORRIBLE design flaw. I've survived Windows 3.1 through XP, Apple Macintosh through the OS X Mavericks, and the Nokia 5161 through the LG Rumor Reflex, and this is by far the worst of the technological sins I've seen.
I'm taking the phone back to the store right now and exchanging it for anything that does what it's supposed to do.
Cons: constant beeping, poor battery
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

you CAN turn the beeping off simply by going to the message settings, then notifications and set it to ICON ONLY.Then it will only give you an initial notification that you have a message instead of beeping constantly. It was easy to figure out.I love this phone!

I've owned this phone for three months, and out of the eight phones I've owned over eight years, this one is by far the worst in almost every aspect.
It also has an incredibly annoying featuring: whenever you get a new text message or voicemail, the phone emits a loud beep every 60 seconds until you respond to it, wether it takes you two minutes or two days. Imagine having a serious conversation when you receive a text message. Every minute this loud beep blasts through the air throwing off your train of though and ruining the conversation. So you have to reach into your pocket and pull out your phone to silence it. It sure is a great way to enhance friendships! Or if you get a text message at night: the phone beeps until you respond. This happened to me so many times! This made me despise this phone more than anything else. I found out how to turn off the beep, but then my phone actually alerted me to text messages about 80% of the time. Yes, that's right: I would get texts and never be notified about them. This happened frequently and I just got in the habit of checking my phone every five minutes.
Battery life is terrible. With my last phone I had to charge once a week. With this phone, I have to charge almost every other day, and if you're using the internet or live in an area with poor reception, you'll be lucky if it lasts a day.
The keyboard is terrible too. I may as well have had T9 instead of the QWERTY keyboard because I had to be so slow in typing in order to not miss the small, slippery keys. Maybe it might work for ladies with small fingers, but it was nothing but a huge pain for me.
You would be better off going with a $15 flip phone than this terrible piece.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The phone is junk. Its difficult to use the front keypad for anything. The buttons are not designed well, if you're not careful you are going to miss-dialing . The slide out is so small, its not much help either. You get what you pay for but I expect more that two days of sounds through the ear peice. JUNK

I currently have a LG Rumor2 and have had it for about 2 yrs. I am needing a new phone and I'm at a loss as to what to do. All I do is text and talk; No internet, no apps, etc. I am finding it extremely hard to find a phone I can trust to use for what little I need it for! I was hoping that maybe you can let me know how the phone might work for me (battery life, speaker phone. key pad, etc.). Thanks

Bought the phone to reduce my balance as it was reaching the $400 limit. It's an OK phone for a low usage user like myself, but the camera in my old Kyocera phone took much better pictures. Also after using a Micro SD card in it to transfer pictures to my computer, it crashes my computer, so that function is useless and I have to Email them one at a time..
Pros: good price
Cons: crummy camera
I would recommend this to a friend!

how to transfer photos without problems
Posted January 21, 2014
Because you didn't fully describe what you did to transfer pics.... here is a suggestion... your SD/microSD, when inserted into your pc should look like another folder.... full of pics and/or mp files. you should be able to select them by click/hold and moving them to a folder on your pc OR, ctrl clicking on them to build a list.... or click on one of them and shift clicking on another either under or over the first item.... also building a list..... click/hold and move them to a folder on your pc.
don't connect your phone to your pc and then try to transfer them.... big waste of effort. never works.

I've had a couple different PayLo phones from VM, and so far this was the best one I picked up. As others have said, the message beeping is incredibly annoying. But overall, I think that's the only really negative side to the phone. The camera isn't great, but I didn't buy the phone for the camera, and anyone looking for a quality camera should look at a different phone or an actual camera. The sound quality is clear during conversations. The qwerty keyboard for texting is a bit hard to use because of the tiny key size but you get used to it.
It's not jam-packed with tons of extras, it's not full of options in terms of customizing it, but it's still a good deal for a prepaid phone. I haven't tried the SD card yet to comment on that but I'd trust Samsung that it would work well.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Has video recorder
Posted January 3, 2014
Yes it does have a video recorder. If you are going to send the video make sure to do the shorter version. Has a good camera but if sending pictures change the resolution to 1.3 instead of 2.0. As for the message beep, that can be changed by going to message settings and changing to icon notification only. You won't find any of this information in the manuel. :-( also all videos, music and pictures can be stored with the micra SD card.

I have used a Montage for almost 2 years. All the features work. Phone has many more features than I expected. Battery life could be better but is average. Key board is average but definately useable. The Montage screen is small but clear. I wish VM would get a bigger selection of Phones for PayLo. Something with a larger screen. I use the calendar, schedule, Bluetooth, Memo Function, Text, Camera and Internet with no problem. Internet is a little slow. Cell Phone works well and is fairly clear.
Pros: phone is great for the price
Cons: screen is small

Hi, Larry. I do agree I wish they had a better selection of pay lo phones. I like my samsung flip phone a lot, despite i wish it had a camera. Really do. It's important if ypu are a woman out alone. That said I love it. Would love a qwerty , for texting as it takes you a year to text on a flip phone. But mine has great battery life, sorry to hear no one is all too happy about this one as i love my samsung flip and was thinking of upgrading! Maybe they'll come out with new qwerty types. Hope! And a samsung flip with a basic camera. Hey i'm not complaining i got gps!

I got this phone because it looked nice, it had a keyboard, and even slid open for an extended keyboard!
I think it's a great phone for kids because it's easy to set parental controls and monitor the phone (since it doesn't automatically lock like most other phones these days).
It's also not too hard to text after you get used to the keyboard and the way to press certain keys, and is also probably a great phone for someone starting out with texting or phones because it's fairly simple and has some neat features like tip and gas calculator, the world clock, and email capability.
But basically, I wouldn't recommend this phone to someone who's used to a touch screen, along with capabilities of customization on the screens, updated looking gadgets, faster internet, and overall ease of use (even thought that might sound contradictory to what I just said, personally, I think the phones with touchscreens are much easier to handle).
Pros: size, full (and big) keyboard, slides open, has key lock so you don't accidentally pocket dial, very light, front keypad, has some good games, can store pictures w/ contact, nice camera images, compact
Cons: you can't lock it -> accessible to anyone, quiet (and limited) alarms, very limited on what you can do to customize, really old school (i.e. the internet), limited standard ringtones, phone service is not the same as other vm phones
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

LOCK PHONE

Here is the info from the online manual (page 82) for locking the phone.
Lock Phone
Set the locking behavior of your phone. When the
phone is locked, you must enter the User Lock
Code to use it, except when dialing emergency
numbers.
You can manually lock your phone, to prevent its
use until unlocking with the Lock Code.
1. From the Main screen, press the
MENU/OK Key ➔ Tools+Settings ➔
Settings ➔ Lock Phone.
2. Enter the Lock Code at the prompt. The
default lock code is the last four digits of
the telephone number assigned to your
phone.
3. Configure settings, by using the
Navigation Key to highlight items and

You can set the locking behavior of your device. When locked, you must enter the Phone Lock Code to gain access to the device.
1. From the Home screen, press Menu > Tools+Settings > Settings > Lock Phone.
2. Enter in your Phone Lock Code.
3. Highlight Lock Now and press the key.
You can change your Phone Lock Code by highlighting and selecting Change Lock Code. Enter your new four-digit code and re-enter the same code to confirm.

I'm not one for writing too many reviews and especially any negative ones, but I need to caution others from purchasing the Samsung Montage. Regardless which protection setting you choose to enable locking, it will not to securely disable the Montage from inadvertently placing calls on its own. Pushing two separate keys as a form of keypad locking is a total joke. Another completely messed up thing with this Montage is that it will not allow you to place calls to restricted numbers without going through the address book. Add to this another ding for bad quality design when it comes to the MicroSD memory card cover - it will not hinge back flush against the side of the case and leaves a chad of the plastic cover hanging out as a minor annoyance. A final coup de grace with this phone is its penchant for chomping thru battery life on standby. I was never able to get more than 3 days worth of energy with barely a call made even in its first week of usage, though that may be the fault of the one battery supplied with my Montage, but one would think that the battery life should at least be 50% of the time being marketed, which is Samsung's case is 10.5 days. On the plus side it is a very pretty phone with nicely appointed proportions and good tactile feel on most keys along with a quality feel in its sliding mechanism actuation, but looks and sizzle only get you so far. You can do much better Samsung!
Pros: it is pretty
Cons: too many small annoyances, useless keypad locking
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Battery Life
Posted January 16, 2014
I haven't read all the reviews yet however, my battery has excellent life. It is one of the best features for me compared to other phones I've had and better than my wifes current phone.
Sorry to hear yours has a poor life.

This phone has the worst reception of a phone i have ever had in twenty years. Only good for texting. Call reception, voice mail delivery, and ability to call out severely limited. I have actually had voicemail and text delivered a day or several days after they were sent. Not virgin service because my LG 101 worked great. IM buying another one.......and donating this montage to Goodwill......concerned Virgin customer of five years.......

I've used this phone for well over a year & I have absolutely NO complaints! My service is great! The features include more than I need on a daily basis. & the price is unbeatable for such a reliable phone! I know people whose phones drop ALL the time! Not mine! If you're not trying to do anything fancy, but want the BEST phone for basic stuff, you can't beat this one!
I would recommend this to a friend!

I read a bunch of mixed reviews on here, and took a chance and bought the phone anyway. At first it seemed to be a decent, functioning cell. But oh how that changed quickly. I have never had so many different issues with one phone, especially in under 4 months from the purchase. If the freezing, randomly restarting, and HORRIBLE reception weren't bad enough; my new replacement phone decides which contacts, calendar appointments, and photos are important enough to save. And occasionally, it completely resets itself and deletes everything. I would like to smash it off of the wall once I find something better, but I'll grit my teeth and recycle it as usual. NEVER EVER AGAIN, SAMSUNG!!!
Pros: not a single thing, nice looking paperweight
Cons: everything
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I was feeling the same way about the mixed reviews on here about this phone. I was ready to say oh I will just try it, it can't be any worse then the piece of junk I have now. I am so glad I read on to find your review! I am totally aggravated with my phone right now that if I would of bought this to still be aggravated I would of been very upset! I realize it isn't a smartphone and the money isn't much but times are tough and spending anything on a product that doesn't work is just terrible!! I thank you for your review, it saved me money and aggravation, for which I am grateful!
