I had owned this phone for nearly a year and have gathered enough experience to properly review this product for other potential owners.
This is a durable, well built device that is well priced for what it does.
It's positives include a durable build, a responsive GPS and google Maps capability, loud speaker and external audio, as well a solid battery, if you download a battery conserving app such as juice defender. Its largest downfall which is merely of preference, is the slow processor. Using this phone for simple apps and limited internet browsing, you will find it to be flawless. But due to the 600 Mhz processor, it is unable to smoothly run games like Angry Birds or any taxing apps. However there are still a plethora of apps and games that will be run fine. The small screen may be difficult to work with at times but with the spell check and user dictionary, it makes up for its lack of size while texting. Overall, after buying a hard rubber case, downloading an app task killer and battery defender, I have found this phone to a reliable, basic android device that will perform well if not expected to be run like a high end android device.
Pros: durability, gps, audio, battery, ease of use
Cons: tiny screen (preference), slow processor for taxing apps and games

Internal memory is severely lacking, you must pick and choose what apps you want to use and you'll only get a few installed at a time. Has android OS bug which drains battery extremely quickly, fairly long charge time. For the price it is sold for now I would recommend it, sadly I paid far too much for mine. Durable and has good weight.sometimes slightly unresponsive to touch. Fair phone for a user that doesn't require many apps or high end speed required to run many games.

The touch screen doesn't work. It will not respond half of the time, so you cannot text ... as typing the letter R -V will show up. L is backup. And it keeps telling me my memory is full to delete some files.. I can't delete what stuff came on the phone, I have deleted ALL of my pics and apps.. And the phone still says memory is too full to send or receive messages. It works when it wants too, meaning I have these problems about 5 times a week, not everyday. I have tried cleaning the screen and repowering the phone. Nothing works.

I've been using my Optimus for almost years now (I refuse to upgrade until this one dies) and as long as you keep in mind that it is several generations old now, it won't disappoint. The internal storage is a bit limited but an SD card will help alleviate some of that. The call quality is good and overall, it is 3492% better than the Samsung it replaced. 3G speed and response is acceptable although occasionally websites will stall and heavy use drains my battery pretty quickly. Overall it's a great phone for us cheapskates who still want unlimited text and data.
Pros: reliable, great build

I have had my first smart phone over 2 years now and still using it daily. I have dropped it numerous times and still it shows no signs of dying or breaking. The battery life is as good as anyone elses that I have seen, but the apps sometimes need to be stopped if I really want to conserve the battery. Reset is easy,. It needs it when it gets too full or too many tasks are being done at once, ie: upgrade app, send message, email notice, map usage all at once. The internal memory got full a little too quickly and moving to SD card is not an option on many apps, but with a task manager you can juggle a few. Facebook is one I cannot keep on my phone due to memory usuage. I could, but I would have to sacrifice many others to do so.
Other than that, it has been an excellent phone for the money. I would recommend it.

Pretty good phone here. Not the best, obviously. The memory on the phone is small, it can store no more than about 3-4 apps probably, along with the apps that are already included with the phone, that you cannot remove. So, some cons for me are that the phone has small and limited memory space, sometimes it lags and freezes up on me. The battery life is average, if you stay on the phone non stop surfing the web, listening to music, texting, etc, it will die within about 3 or 4 hours. But overall, it is a decent phone, and a good phone for an entry level to an Android.

Not much memory
Posted May 10, 2013
The LG Optimus V is a solid, if not spectacular, android phone. It has decent battery life and is easy to use. The only real drawback to this phone is its memory. It has very little of it! You cannot keep many apps as you will not be able to text or receive text or browse. Forget the SD card slot -- it is only good for downloading pics. Also, you cannot remove many of the apps that come with the phone.

This phone is a great starter android if you don't plan on downloading many apps. Even with an SD card, your phone will constantly spit out a "low memory" warning and once that warning appears you cannot do ANYTHING until you delete apps or wipe data clean from the apps. I'm no techy genius so this part really annoyed me, I got to the barest minimum apps I wanted (about 4) and the message would still appear and I refused to delete these select apps. I also could not receive text messages when my iPhone friends would group text each other, I would get about 15 individual blank messages and that was unbearable to ask "what is this about?" like 20 times a month! Other than those two complaints, the phone does the job. You can go on FB, listen to Pandora, play Words with Friends, check your email and surf the web.

i have had this phone for over a yr almost 2yrs. The first months i was happy with it. I loved it. But after a year of having it, it began to grow sluggish. It would power off. It overheats while charging. While i am texting it will freeze, then power off. Right now it just got worse a couple of days ago i am unable to talk on the phone. I receive text messages 10-15 mins later. I have to say though it lasts a long time and a good phone to buy, but over a certain amount of time it gets worse. I take good care of my phone and now its the worst phone i have ever purchased.
Cons: lots

Durability
I've had this phone for over 2 years. I've dropped on pavement over 5 times and just pick up the battery and put it back together. The phone still looks brand and operates like brand new.
Error Free and Every Functionality
I use the phone daily, never drop a call and using Google Play, can get any app I need free. Some example; My guitar tuner, my speedometer and odometer, navigation and directions which work perfect, music player, camera (takes great pics!), video camera, alarm clock, weather, tide chart (for surfing) Song Recognizer (using Shazam) and the coolest feature is being able to speak whatever fact I'm looking for into the Google based phone and seconds later having the answer!
The point is, whatever application/functionality you desire, you can get it free at Google Play. You can even use your computer to search for the application and then, with your computer, have it installed on your phone. (This requires that you have a Google Email account and register your phone with that account - takes only seconds.
Great phone, it's also compact and slim hence fits nicely in your pocket. I recommend this phone to EVERYBODY!
Pros: the video camera, functionality durability design cost

I've owned for 1.5+ years with good results. It is my first smartphone and feel like it was a good one to start with. Live in the country and was pleased to get reception w/ minimal dead spots. Slow 3g/ Internet connection at times, but wouldn't expect it to be super fast to begin with...does fine, just have to be patient.
The Swype and voice options are great...even my iPhone (4) using friends don't have those options. These features are a bonus for use with me. Being able to switch between plans is great option too!
Price point and capabilities are worth investing in the phone. It is super easy to use and found it reliable. I've even dunked it in a cup of tea, dropped on pavement, and cement floor by accident and it still works! I'm not ready to trade it in and think I'll hang on to it until it kicks.
Pros: ease of use, good price, price, durability, takes decent to great pics, quick to charge, swype keyboard, voice capabilities, plan options
Cons: no space for apps, need battery saver, hard to see screen in sun, too many embedded apps you can't get rid of, no flash for camera, speaker quality

I've had this phone for about 2 years now, and the battery life is still really great. Texting has been great up until just lately, but I think that's really good for how long I've had it. Internet 3G is HORRID. It's always been SUPER slow, and it takes FOREVER to download anything. Also, it does seem like there's enough space on the phone, so you can't really keep that many apps.
Pros: texting, talk service
Cons: storage space, internet connection

The Optimus V was a bit underpowered when I bought it in late 2011. It is definitely underpowered compared to what's out there now- even the original Angry Birds plays slow as molasses. Additionally, the phone runs Android 2.2, a full 2 versions behind the most current release.
Without a battery extender app, battery life is extremely unpredictable. Sometimes it will last 2 days, other times it will be dead in 12 hours. Get JuiceDefender or something similar for more consistency.
While you can put a large SD card in this phone for media, apps still rely on the onboard memory. You'll be lucky to fit a dozen apps on it since half the phone's memory is taken up by useless bloatware. I ended up flashing the stock ROM because it was so limiting.
Recently I've been having trouble charging it- the micro-USB cord is connected but it has to be in just the right position with just the right pressure to actually charge. I imagine this is just from its age.
As for pros- the screen is nice, and I've mashed on the buttons playing games and they still work great.
If you want the bare bones, this phone will suffice, but if you want a phone that doesn't feel obsolete after the first week, pay a bit more and get something better.

I've had this phone for about two years now and it hasn't quite disappointed me yet! I've dropped this thing numerous times (on hard surfaces, mind you) and the phone still functions AND the screen has never cracked! Now, the battery life can drain a bit faster depending on if your wifi settings are on and you're browsing the internet for an extended period of time (Netflix, etc), otherwise I don't have any problems with this device. It's cheaper compared to all of the other smartphones out there so that's a plus. I'll have this thing until it finally gives out!

The phone is to expensive for all the functions it has. Maybe if it was cheaper then there would have been a better understanding of such price. The only good thing of the phone is how sturdy it is, it may fall and fall and still work.

Cons: low speed, jams

Had this phone just over a year when it started to randomly turn itself off and restart. Now, less than two years in, it does this no less than half a dozen times a day. Sometimes it will restart itself and I won't know it has happened until I notice my web browser has reset. Other times, it doesn't bother to turn itself back on again and I only notice that it's completely off when I check it because I haven't received a text or call I was expecting. In addition to the random shut offs, it also freezes up several times a day. This can be in the middle of browsing or website or even just swiping the unlock feature across the face. I've waited up to 10 minutes for these freeze ups to clear and, when they don't, I end up having to take out the battery to completely reset it and get it working. Again... at least a half a dozen times a day. Spend a little more and buy something other than an LG that will last longer than just the warranty time.
Pros: cheap
Cons: you get what you pay for
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I got this phone over 2 years ago. It is my first smartphone. Very easy to use. But it has A LOT of bloatware which drives me insane. I've pulled out everything I can, but I can't figure out how to get rid of the majority of apps I don't want/use. That can be frustrating since many of the apps I DO use do not allow me to save to the SD card (which has plenty of space), they must be saved on the phone, which limits the memory you have available. Which means you start losing text messages, etc. So I have to start deleting apps I only use occasionally and re-load them only when I need them, which isn't always convenient. In a nutshell, if you have never had a smartphone, but you want to venture into ownership, this is a good phone, just don't expect it to fulfill your needs for years to come.
Oh, and buy one extra battery. The battery life is okay, but you'll save yourself a lot of heartache if you carry an extra one around with you.
Screen is also strong, if you will be responsible and very careful with your phone, you don't need a screen cover. Nonetheless, things have happened and I have dropped my phone a few times and it has held up. It might help that I have sturdy plastic cover on it. There are a few minor scratches on the phone, but they are very minimal and it does not disrupt my view of the screen.
The only reason I do still have this phone is because it still does what I absolutely need it to do, and I can't justify buying a snazzy new phone right now under my current financial situation. At worst, I would have gotten rid of this phone about six months ago, so I still got a good year and a half of use out this phone. Now it just meets the basic requirements. As soon as things turn around, I'll be investing in a new phone, I'm ready for an upgrade!
Pros: great starter phone
Cons: too much bloatware
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great On Basics, No On Facebook Apps And Storage
Posted May 5, 2013
I have read JunglePrincess's review and must agree we have been living parallel lives with our LG Opimus V phones. We both have owned them for about the same amount of time and for the same reasons.
I agree to the need of an extra battery but that is with all phones. I have bought generic batteries from ebay but recommend using your brandname as they are cheap and wear out fast. I also bought some nice thick screen covers extremely cheap on ebay but have only used one so far even with all the drops on cement floors and that's without a plastic cover.
The bloatware apps and storage space are all problems I have also tried to resolve. My resolution was to permantly delete the hefty facebook app and accept my phone is outdated with limited storage. It comes with a hefty google map app which is great but as with most other apps it comes with can not be uninstalled. So as she said, good on the basics, not good on hefty apps and storage.
I am ready for an upgrade also. Was interested in the Samsung Galaxy II as I should still be able to connect it to my computer and upgrade to a nicer camera but the price is still extreme. I'm going to try out the kyrocera. It's cheaper than what I paid for this phone 2 years ago and I shall have 30 days to review it and compare it to all the reviews I've read so far.
